Meal Assembly for Brother Francis Shelter Guests

Description:ย Offering meals-to-go for BFS clients and visitors, particularly on weekends when sources of meals are less available, is a valuable service for those navigating homelessness. Volunteers pack 120 breakfasts and 120 lunches, assembly that requires no cooking, just a space to haveย an assemblyย line packingย bags.ย 

Ideal for: Small groups of 5-10ย who need a flexible schedule for volunteering, one-time volunteer opportunities. Complete theย Group Volunteer Applicationย if interested.ย ย This is a group-only volunteer opportunity.ย 

Time commitment: The time is about 1-2 hours, depending on the size of the group, plus delivery to BFS after meals have been assembled.

Clare House Meals Team

Description:ย Supplement the meals Beans Cafe provides at Clare House and prepare oneย nutritious, tastyย dinner a month for 55-80 mothers/children at Clare House.ย 

Ideal for:ย Churchย group, youthย groupย or other group large enough to provideย 55-80 servings once a month.ย 

Time Commitment:ย Once a month. Meals are delivered between 2 and 4 p.m. on the selected day.ย

Client Enrichment Activites at Complex Care

Description:ย Living in a shelter environment can be stressful and challenging, particularly with many people with medical challenges, personalities and the weatherย keeping folks cooped up. Enrichment activities are meant to engage clients, get them out of theirย roomsย andย connectingย with others around them. This improves their mental and emotional health.ย Creativity can be applied to ideas: ย knittingย or crochet groups, nail painting, games,ย craftsย or more.ย ย 

Ideal for:ย Organizations, small groups or friend groups who want to help engage folks who cannot get out much, enjoy getting to know people and are willing to engageย others.ย 

Time Commitment:ย Varies. This could be done on a weekly, bi-weeklyย or monthly basis, or as a one-time event. Time of day could be worked out with shelter staff.ย Potentiallyย daytimesย or evenings.ย

Enrichment activities are meant to engageย guests,ย connectingย themย with others around them in a positive way. This improves their mental and emotional health. Creativity can be applied to ideas: knitting or crochet groups, nail painting, games, BINGO,ย crafts,ย orย more.ย ย 

Ideal for:ย Organizationsย orย small groups who want to help engage folks who cannot get out much, enjoy getting to know people and are willing to engage othersย in a dynamic environment. Flexibilityย isย a mustย in this type of volunteer position.ย 

Time Commitment:ย Varies. This could be done on a weekly, bi-weeklyย or monthly basis, or as a one-time event. Time of day could be worked out with shelter staff.ย Potentiallyย daytimesย or evenings.ย
